garden soil types Your garden's soil can affect your plant's success, so Homebase plants have care cards with icons showing you which conditions each plant thrives in, so you can match these to your conditions.

Soil type Your soil type can affect the success of your plants, so Homebase plants are suitable for one of 2 types.
Find out which type you have by taking a piece of soil the size of a golf ball (removing any stones) and roll into a 'worm' shape...
| |
|
1. Well drained Well drained soil types will not form this worm shape, they simply fall apart in your hand, and could be described as sandy in appearance.
| |
|
2. Moist, but well drained Moist, but well drained soil types will form this shape, but will be crushed easily in the palm of your hand, with a loam appearance.

"Most gardens have the same soil throughout, but larger gardens may have different soil types in different areas. Check the soil in several places, and if different source plants to suit each soil type."
