erythronium 'Pagoda'Or Trout Lily. This common name really does this dainty little bulb no favours. I prefer the alternative of Dog's tooth violet, which refers to the shape of the bulbs. |
| Flowering from April through to May, they are valued for their glossy dark green leaves along with the lovely yellow flowers, which are curved at the tips and last well through the wind and rain of spring.
This cultivar is reliable and vigorous, preferring partial shade and moist soil, but will tolerate dry situations. As a hardy perennial it will re-appear each spring, and will reach 20cm in height and 10cm in width. |
Plant the bulbs in autumn, about 10cm deep and await a spring display. It looks stunning combined with ferns, primroses or hellebores.
